Rebecca the Snuggly Duckling is a one of kind pattern like no other. My friend Rebecca asked me to design a duck lovey that she wanted to give as a baby shower gift. I have been crocheting about 10 years by using other people’s patterns. I wanted to come up with a design that was unique and different than what I have seen out there. I wanted to have the blanket as circle where it appear that a duckling was sitting in the middle of a round pond, and grass was the edging. My friend challenged me and helped me think through this design. She thought it would be cool if it looked like the effect of pebble rippling in the water like you see when you skip rocks. This was definitely a challenge. The first time I tried it, it wasn’t staying flat. I knew I wanted to use single crochet and double crochet every other stitch to create the ripple effect I wanted. This was definitely challenging especially as I was adding increases. It took me a few tries, but I finally got it the way I wanted it. This third design of mine was assuredly the most difficult design I have taken on so far, and by far my favorite one I have done so far. You can choose when you make it to have it as a pond with different blues, use variegated yarn, or even use different colors and just have a round lovey. I decided to name this pattern after my dear friend Rebecca Ivy Gorrell who always inspires and encourages me. This design was fully inspired by her thoughts to me, and that’s why I named it after her!
