Experience Level: Easy

Gauge:

13.5 stitches x 10.5 rows = 4 x 4” square without blocking.

Pattern used for gauge: HDC

Size:

Lovey Size: Approximately 13.5” x 12.5”

Height of the Head attached to blanket: 3.5” Tall

Head Width 5” across

Pattern Key:

HDC – Half Double Crochet

SC – Single Crochet

Sc2tog – single crochet decrease

SL ST – slip stitch

FO – Finish Off

ST(S) – Stitch/stitches

REV SC – Reverse Single Crochet

DC – Double Crochet

Ch – Chain

Rnd(s) – Round(s)

Special Stitches:

Reverse Single Crochet (REV SC)

  • Insert the hook in the first stitch to the right, turning the hook downward to yarn over and pull it through. Yarn Over, and pull it through both loops on the hook to complete the stitch. Repeat around.

Single Crochet Decrease (SC2TOG)

  • Insert hook in the next stitch, and pull up a loop. (2 loops on the hook) Insert hook in the next stitch, and pull up another loop. (You should have 3 loops on your hook now.) Yarn over, and pull yarn through all 3 hoops.

Shell Stitch

  • 5 Double Crochet in the same stitch.

Notes:

  • Read through the entire pattern first.
  • I used the same variegated yarn on both examples. On Option A, I used I Love This Yarn Grape for the shell border, inner ears, nose. I also used white for the head and outer ears. On Option B, I used the same brand I Love This Yarn with the same yardage, etc but in the colors Ocean for the border and inner ears. I also used I Love This Yarn Toasted Almond for the head and outer ears. It is all the same amount of yardage that would be needed.
  • The head is worked in continuous rounds. Do not join while making the head. Use stitch markers to know where your first stitch in the round is.
  • Beginning chain does not count as a stitch throughout pattern.
  • Sl St does not count as a stitch throughout the pattern.
  • Repeat stitches between * and * around.

Assembly:

Nose:

Sew nose with the point of the triangle down onto the head between round 9 and 10 to round 14 approximately.

Eyes:

Embroider eyes between round 6 and 7 to round 9 with 2 stitches spaced between nose and eyes. Follow the picture for the suggested shape.

Head:

Sew head to the middle of the blanket. I did mine diagonally between rows 14-17.

Ears:

Sew wrong side of each Inner Ear to each of the wrong side of the Outer Ears. The right side on both should be facing out on either side.

Sew ears between rounds 2 and 3 on either side of the head.
